How I Made My First Website

You’ve learned why I started developing a blog, but what about the “how?”

Granted, it may be premature for me to talk about website development since mine can only be rated no better than “passable” (and that’s being extremely generous!) in terms of form and function, but no one suddenly gains professional website development skills overnight, and I thought that this blog post can serve as an inspiration for those who wish to start out.

Back in Summer 2018, I was in a state of academic crisis. I quite barely passed my Spring Semester earlier, and I knew that I am in for a rougher time next semester with my worst classes –  Physics and Physical Chemistry. Failing a class already hurts, but the prospect of being held back by another semester before I can graduate leaves far less to be desired.

During my desperation to become a better student, I discovered Thomas Frank at Youtube, and he had a guide on why I should have my personal website and how to go about starting one. Given that I was quite lacking in the professional development department, I could use every advantage that I can get, and sometime later, I purchased my first domain name and followed the instructions in the guide.

Seriously, go check this guy out. Excellent guides for productivity and a huge major influence in my life.

Of course, I wanted to personalize my website, though I still lack experience in using WordPress. But the Internet saves the day again, and I used these two Youtube videos as primary sources of reference to further develop my website.

Granted, I could have saved myself a good deal of trouble by hiring a professional WordPress website designer, and I would have a far superior (or at least more visually impressive) website by now, but I wanted to at least set up a foundation so that when I actually do explore that option later in the future, that professional designer would have something to work with than a blank canvas.

So far, I haven’t reaped any returns (like any sort of communications from job recruiters) since the official launch of this website, but just because they aren’t communicating doesn’t mean they aren’t looking!…but it’s about high time that I do look into a Metrics plugin so I can monitor the traffic to my website.

But hey, my website continues to evolve, and each and every day, it will get better and better!
